What I did with the little bit of time I had...

So I sew these, despite my crazy schedule of workshops, chauffeuring the kids, and running errands. These are for my girls when they start the new school year next Jan. They were made from the wee bit of time I had in between all these happenings. Can see that I'm no expert in sewing department lol!

These bears (pencil cases) are modelled from the looks of my younger one's favourite bear. She has these two by her bedside every night.

I don't really know the name...just know that It should be called "Ja" from the clothes that its wearing.. and its made from sekiguchi co Japan. I would appreciate if anyone could tell me more about this bear though.

Deco Sweets Workshops coming soon too!

Exams periods are finally over and I am busy planning for the classes that coming up real soon. I do hoped that I can complete the schedule by end of the week and would be able to reply to who are interested to attend with more information. My mom is going for her second leg surgery today (the 1st one was at early part of the year) and I will be pretty occupied with all the errands and matters that comes with all these. So please pardon me if I reply to your email a bit slower than usual.
I've been planning for the miniature gourmet classes for quite sometime now and things are moving a bit slow due to family affairs recently, but all information regarding the classes and time schedule should be ready by end of this week. Together with the miniature gourmet classes, I will also be having workshops on deco sweets designs (please see above pict.). In 2 sessions workshop, you will be able to create everything that you see in the above pict. like the chocolate rose, gingerbread man, biscuits, cherries, strawberry and blueberry etc...and decorate them with whipped cream clay into a glass container. The details will also be up by end of the week.
So look out for them soon and ciao!

Meanwhile I'm busy preparing my exams, oops..sorry I meant helping my kids prepare for their exams.(it seems like I'm the one taking the exams.) I guess that its the sentiment for a lot of parents in Singapore. you will see me disappearing at the beginning of the week until Thursday which is their last paper. After that I will be going to plan for the children holiday programmes for Tinkle Art Room.
Till then, take care!

I'm back......

I'm back ...one for each of us from my trip... yup there is even one for DH...hehehe.

Look forward to new exciting products once the photos are ready! Still in the mist of trying to sort out so many items that I've brought back from my trip, not including the 10 big cartons of Makin's products that just arrived into Sin on Sat (when I wasn't around), what can you say about such wonderful DH. I would probably end up paying huge sum just for the warehouse rent during the festive season if not for his help to receive the stock for me. Hehe...a little sweet surprise for the girls and him from my trip. Now you would have guess which is the mommy bunny (aka me) the baby girls bunnies (my girls) and ahem...the daddy bunny (DH). I think they would look perfect sitting on the shelf of our new study when we move to the new house.

Updates!

Hello there,
Just a short update before I leave this weekend for a few days out of town for work. Our Makin's clay products is already on the way here and should be arriving end this week thus new items will be uploaded next week. I've already take note of those who have emailed me about the products and will inform them once they have arrive. You can still go ahead to order from TAC, but please do note that as I will be away from 18/09 to 21/09 and I would only be able to process your order on 22/09 when I'm back in town.

last term break was a short one, so we did not have any clay workshop for Tinkle Art Room, but I had a private Angel Clay Workshop with 4 little girls who had a wonderful 2 hours making the squirrel you see above, except theirs was alot more pretty in pink with pink and yellow flowers all over. ^-^
Oh yes, even though at the moment we do not have any regular children class now, but if you are interested to organise a private workshop for your kids, please feel free to contact me for more details.
Till then, enjoy your long weekends!

My knowledge on different types of clay.

(Made from Modello oven-soft clay by Lyra)

As I've received many enquiries on the usage and properties of different types of clay, I thought a short introduction of them would be good for beginners who would like to know more about them
1. Polymer clay (Oven baked)

The 2 major brands that are common in Singapore are Sculpey and Fimo. Sculpey is the product of Polyform from US and Fimo is product of Eberhard Faber from Germany.

Under Sculpey, the most common use products are Sculpey 3, Premo and now they have the Studio by Sculpey and bake shop. Personally I do not use much of Sculpey 3 because it is too soft to my liking and the end products often become brittle after baking, and fingerprints also seemed to be more prominent on Sculpey 3. I do like Premo for its durability and flexibility. Studio by Sculpey have a nice range of colours and yummy names too (eg. whipped cream) and I love their range of tools and accessories. I have not try the new bake shop, but I heard this clay is more suitable for young children as they are very soft and easy to condition/mold.

I love to use Fimo soft, even though they are sometimes harder (it depends on batches). They are good for creating canes. The colours are very saturated. I especially like the translucent range as they are more translucent (clearer) then the Sculpey range which tends to be look milky. Under Fimo range, there is also Fimo Classic, they are known to be extremely hard (but then the new formula might have change, I still need to update on it.) But they are extremely durable.

Light weight air dry clay.

There are different brands like Angel Clay, Wingsilk clay, Hearty Clay and etc...
These types of clay are good for making project that needs to be light weight (eg. hanging mobile). They dried up to have a foamy/fluffy effect.

Angel clay comes in white and they can be mixed with poster colour to achieve your desired colour, they also can create sweet baby pastel colours, which other types of coloured clay won't be able to achieve. They are the lightest air-dry clay that I've ever come across. A good point to note is that you will only need to get a pack to create all the colours that you need. The same goes for Wingsilk clay.

Hearty coloured clay comes in pack of 50gm, they comes in a variety of colours and are also light-weighted. They are good choice for light-weighted fast projects as all the colours are ready made.

Air dry resin clay.

They dried up to a very durable and slightly flexible form. They are especially good for making flowers and miniatures. Some comes in slightly translucent form and some are opaque. Acrylic or oil paint can be added. As they are air dry, you might like to take note when you are working with them, take only the amount that you need to use and remember to store the rest in a good airtight container. When you are working on them, remember to keep those "exposed clay" under a wet cloth, this will help to keep the "exposed” clay moist. It’s also good to know that Vaseline works well with them as sometime the clay will stick onto the surface of the worktop, it’s good to apply a thin layer of Vaseline to prevent the clay from sticking onto it. Grace, Cosmos, Thai clay (available soon) are different types of resin clay available in TAC.

I'm always on the look out and constantly updating my knowledge and will always try to bring in more interesting products to TAC. Look out for more interesting and new range of products once I'm back from my buying trip this coming Sept.

Cheers
Charlene

Painting on Stones at Emily Hill

This holiday was buzzing with activities for TAR as well as the family, right at the beginning of the term break, we spent a wonderful Saturday morning with a company of talented artistes at Emily Hill. The kids experienced a few good hours painting on different types of stone like marble, granite and even onyx.
I love the peaceful and artistic ambiance of Emily Hill, it's exactly like what they have mentioned in the website, "in the very heart of Singapore, amidst the shopping, the construction sites, traffic snarls and the million other daily abrasions of the quotidian, there is a spot of surreal quietude. "
Visit Emily Hill's website, they have all the interesting programmes coming up which I'm very interested to join too.

"S" is the word of the day

My youngest was "Sick" for the whole of this week and part of last week, she missed more than a week of school and the zoo trip that she was eagerly looking forward to going with her classmates...we will just have to make it up to her this June Holiday. 3 visits to the clinic and 3 courses of different antibiotics seems to be doing good on her virus, but has been upsetting her digestive system, and poor baby hasn't been able to eat well, and it's down to a mere 18kg for a 6 yr old.. :((

My green and creative packaging

While I was fumbling on what kind of unique packing I should have for Ivory Apple. I came across a whole big box of lovely and creative paintings done by my little students when we had the shop in SGV. Well I would say some paintings were very bold in colours and strong in expressions and most of them are just very creative. I couldn't be able to frame all of them and to chuck them aside seems quite a pity. So I decided to add a touch of creativeness in the new Ivory Apple packaging, now my new customers would each have a little small piece of Tinkle Art Room when they purchase my handmades from Ivory Apple!
PS: Please ignore the ugly handwriting ^-^
